As people called into life through our baptism, this
gathered community claims its baptismal identity in Christ who defeats sin,
death, and the devil and gives us new life. In these living waters we are claimed
by God, marked with the cross of Christ and sealed with the Holy Spirit. We
live out our baptismal identity in service to Jesus Christ to love God and to
love our neighbors as ourselves.
In
John 4:10 and 13, Jesus says, I will give you living water the water I give you will become in you a spring of water
welling up to eternal life. This living water drowns our sin, washes us
clean, and raises us to live for Christ in newness of life, as a new creation,
not living for ourselves but for the sake of our neighbors who need to hear and
experience the life giving words of hope, peace, forgiveness, and salvation
offered freely through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ.
10Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift
of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he
would have given you living water."
